Sonoma Land Trust hires Paul DeMarco as new finance director

(SANTA ROSA, CALIF., Oct. 7, 2009) — Paul DeMarco has been hired to be the new director of finance and administration for the Sonoma Land Trust, effective November 30. He will replace Lois Downy, who has served in this role for nine years and plans to retire.

Paul DeMarcoDeMarco possesses 23 years of experience in nonprofit financial management and has worked as the vice president for finance and administration at Community Foundation Sonoma County since 1997. During his tenure there, the staff grew from five to 15 and assets increased from $25 million to more than $100 million.

“The work of the Sonoma Land Trust is very close to my heart and mind,” says DeMarco. “As hard as it is to leave the Community Foundation, I couldn’t pass up this opportunity.”

“Along with Paul’s professional acumen, he offers strong local relationships and a deep commitment to protecting that which makes Sonoma County so special,” says Ralph Benson, executive director of the Sonoma Land Trust. “We are delighted to welcome him aboard.”

Prior to Community Foundation, DeMarco served as the financial manager for the Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin in San Francisco for 11 years. He is a graduate of Yale University and a longtime resident of Petaluma.
