My experience with SLT has been about the little things:
In just one year:
I went from having a slight knowledge of computer software programs to understanding Excel.
In just one year:
I went from knowing nothing about grant writing to researching, writing and submitting proposals for programs that I felt passionate about.
In just one year:
I went from being a volunteer to learning the ins and outs, complexities and joys of a well-run volunteer program and promoting the spirit of volunteerism in others.
In just one year:
I went from knowing little about my native landscape to learning about native and non-native species and the use of different stewardship practices.
In just one year:
I went from being able to claim Glen Ellen as my place of birth to cultivating an ongoing relationship with this region through stewardship out on the land
In just one year:
I went from dreaming that I could identify different plants to reading books, asking questions and learning the different plants in my community, encouraged by the passion of those around me.
In just one year:
I went from being a resident of Sonoma County to an active member of my community.
In just one year:
I went from a vague, dream-like understanding of an environmental nonprofit to seeing a working composition of individuals of many talents helping to maintain and support the mission to protect the land forever.
Now, in just one year, with the encouragement, knowledge and support received from the Sonoma Land Trust, I have been blessed with the opportunity to live out one of my life’s dreams. Starting this September, I will be doing restoration work through Americorps at Point Reyes National Seashore. This is a place that is dear to my heart, a place that I not only enjoy, but wish to support with all that I can do. SLT has given me the means by which to dream out my dream to the best of my ability. SLT has cultivated a desire in me to take what I have learned and to learn more and in turn be able to give more to the lands that I love.
Thank you SLT!
Sincerely,
Theo Michaels
