PLANNED GIVING

“I have created a Charitable Remainder Trust with Sonoma Land Trust as one of my beneficiaries, so SLT will receive a nice contribution in the future.  I so appreciate Sonoma Land Trust's efforts to preserve the North Bay as the best place in the world to live.”
— Margery, Mill Valley

You can have a significant impact in saving land by making a planned gift. Become a member of Sonoma Land Trust’s Legacy League when you make a philanthropic investment to carry forward the protection of Sonoma County landscapes long after you are gone.

There are many tools you can use to include Sonoma Land Trust in your estate plans:

  • A simple bequest, naming the Land Trust in your will or trust
  • A charitable gift annuity, receiving a specified amount of income during your lifetime and afterwards having the remainder generate income for the Land Trust
  • A charitable remainder trust, receiving a percentage of trust assets during your lifetime and having the corpus transferred to SLT after your death
  • A remainder interest, deeding real property to the Land Trust but reserving a life estate that allows you the use and enjoyment of the property until your death
  • A life insurance policy, naming the Land Trust as beneficiary
  • A retirement plan, such as an IRA naming the Land Trust as primary or successor beneficiary

When your attorney draws up your will or living trust, language like these examples can be used:

“I give to Sonoma Land Trust, a nonprofit organization with Tax Identification Number 51-0197006, with offices at 966 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rose, California, $_________ (or describe the real or personal property, including exact location) OR ________% of my estate"

OR

"I give all the residue of my estate, including real and personal property, to Sonoma Land Trust, a nonprofit organization with Tax Identification Number 51-0197006, with offices at 966 Sonoma Avenue, Santa Rosa, California.”

If you decide to include Sonoma Land Trust in your estate plan, we hope you will contact our Donor Relations Director at (707) 526-6930, extension 105.  Your example can inspire others--especially if you give us permission to publish your name in our Annual Report--and we can talk with you about your gift to be sure we can honor your wishes.
